Inside My Design Process: Planning a Functional Kitchen Renovation
I haven’t shared much of my own home outside of the sitting room makeover I started last November (and plan to finish this year), but that’s about to change! In this video, I’m giving you an inside look at my future kitchen renovation plans—designed to fix aesthetic issues like blue laminate countertops and wallpaper, but more importantly, to create a space that works for the way we live.
From knocking down walls to adding an island and relocating appliances, I’ve mapped out solutions to improve functionality and hosting potential, all while minimizing electrical and plumbing changes. I even dive into creative ideas like pull-out cabinet gates to keep the dogs out of the kitchen while I cook, an integrated water bowl niche, and repurposing windows for better natural light and a cohesive look.
While this renovation is still a few years away, this video showcases my approach to design: addressing how people live in their homes before perfecting the aesthetics. Using a 3D model, I walk you through how I’ve imagined this space—plus plans for an eventual butler’s pantry and laundry room addition to complete the vision.
I referenced XO, MaCenna’s panel-ready refrigerator from her stunning kitchen renovation in her Texas cottage.
