Designed for an elementary school teacher with a love for literature and the outdoors, this home library draws inspiration from the serene beauty framed by its expansive picture window. The goal was to create a warm, inviting retreat where the comforts of home meet the charm of nature.

Anchoring the design is a full wall of semi-custom built-ins, achieved by reimagining the client’s existing IKEA Billy Bookcases. Creative trim work and integrated LED strip lighting gave the shelving a bespoke feel, while a rich brownish-red interior—contrasted with a crisp white “counter” shelf—added depth, warmth, and a subtle nod to traditional library design.

Balancing new and old, we paired the cabinetry with a thoughtful mix of vintage accents, custom furnishings, and approachable retail finds to create a collected, lived-in aesthetic. Soft textures, layered patterns, and warm wood tones enhance the cozy atmosphere, while hand-crafted elements such as the ottoman and roman shades infuse the space with personality and artisanal detail.

The result is a reading haven that feels timeless yet personal—equally suited to curling up with a novel on a quiet evening or sharing a story with young readers by daylight.
